Fine time to experiment...

At 1AM last night we heard gunshots somewhere in the neighborhood- for the 2nd time this year. Ooooh, can't wait till the kids are out of school and it's hot so they can really start making trouble. A few minutes later came the sirens and a few minutes after that, the helicopters. Since I didn't know for sure what was going on, I thought it was time to load up a magazine. Wow- little did I know. My fingers are sore even now and I was only able to get ten of them loaded, out of 16. Clearly this was not a job for the soft, gentle hands of an angry and very sleepy coder. Is there some kind of machine for loading those things up?!

There are little plastic things that can come with the magazines that will hold the spring down while you put each round in. They are affectionately called 'pussy-thumbs', so don't let yourself get caught using one at a range or something!

It's just something you kind of get used to!

LOL! When I have to reload at the range then I'll just sneak off to the bathroom with the magazines and ammo, to bear my shame in secret.

I've heard great things about the UPLULA. Have almost bought one a few times:

I have these cheap universal thumb loading things that fit around your thumb like a ring, and have a little stub for pushing down the top round. They work OK, not as fancy as something like the above, or a magazine specific loader as I'm sure exists for the XD.

That said, I'm much in favor of not trusting to being able to load under duress, particularly with a dump of adrenaline coursing through the veins.

Just grow some man thumbs ya big angry nerd. You don't keep the mag loaded anyways?

Didn't your pistol come with a loader?

Here is your answer: The Smart Thumb

Alternately you could try these handy exercises - http://www.bostonhand.com/thumbexercises.html

I'll try this again.

Or, you could just practice over, and over, and over. You'll get the hang of it.

Picked up a cleaning kit yet?

And just for the record.

I had already taught him how to use the loader that night. It came with one. ;)

Well, he was tired (which is kind of like being drunk for him) and had not used it all before. I'm usually better at detail things like that. He's the typical man that doesn't read the directions and tries to force things. They call it man-handling for a reason. :)

I'm not sure what Gina means- she didn't look at the loader until the next morning. The video posted by Neuf was very helpful. The step I was missing was to remove the damn thing before pushing the bullet to the back. So I was forcing the bullets under the loader- 9 times. Anyone else want to take a try on that? Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go man-handle mah woman!

Ah, yes. My bad. It was the next morning that I figured out how to use the loader, not that night.
